The story behind vintage aviator sunglasses
Aviator sunglasses are among the most sought-after by men and women of all ages. At Vytria, you can find a wide range of models to choose from. These lenses have an oval shaped iron frame and come in various colors and lens gradients. Both the frames and lenses come in different sizes, precisely fitting the shape of the face or personal preferences. The origin of these sunglasses dates back to the 1930s, thanks to Bausch & Lomb, the creator of the Ray-Ban brand, in New York. Ray-Ban introduced the first aviator sunglasses in 1936, designed for United States pilots. The initial model had a golden plastic frame and green lenses. It was a huge success as it protected pilots' vision by blocking the intensity of sunlight.
Only a year later, in 1937, Ray-Ban replaced the plastic frame with a metallic one, which remains the primary characteristic of these sunglasses today. This model gained worldwide fame when General Douglas MacArthur landed on a beach in the Philippines wearing them during World War II.
Models of aviator sunglasses
Since then, American aviator sunglasses have never gone out of fashion and are currently favourites of celebrities worldwide. Originally designed to protect pilots' eyes from the intensity of sunlight, they are perfect for eye protection. They offer high protection, filtering 80% of sunlight, and can be used on any occasion. At Vytria, you can find a vast catalog of women's aviator sunglasses and men's aviator sunglasses. If you have a small face, we recommend choosing a model with more rectangular or square lenses, as it will make your face appear wider. On the other hand, if you have an elongated face, opt for aviator sunglasses with larger oval lenses, and if your face is round, smaller lenses are ideal for you.
The frame colour is a highly personal choice that depends largely on your own preferences. As for the lens colour, brown is suitable for people with myopia as it increases depth and contrast. Grey is the best for driving, and the original green colour significantly reduces sunlight. We invite you to explore all the aviator-style sunglasses available in our store on your own.
