Tom Ford glasses. An icon
par excellence
We can say
without mincing words that Tom Ford was, is and will be an icon par excellence.
His extensive career, especially in the fashion industry, but also in the world
of cinema, has made him one of the most important designers of this century.
Everything
Ford creates, fashion, films, or sunglasses, are characterized by a masculine
sobriety, the color black and a continuous call for provocation. A personal
style that led him to direct all of Gucci's ready-to-wear collections in the
1990s, as well as the accessories collections. Gucci buys Yves Saint Laurent
and Tom Ford becomes the creative director of the French firm.
In the
early 2000s the designer decides to bet on his eponymous firm to which he will devote himself
exclusively. Tom Ford's designs are a mixture of the most classic fabrics,
intense colors and his personal allusion to sensuality. In addition, there was
no better image for his brand than himself and as the media adored him, he
began to show his facet of designer/model that until now only Galliano had
dared.
Tom Ford's influences
If we talk
purely about the collections of his own firm we can say that the launch of Tom
Ford was the consecration of his creative universe clearly influenced by all
the aesthetics, culture and society of New York in the 70s as well as
everything that surrounded the Studio 54 nightclub (the rise of disco
music and sexual freedom).
Tom Ford
has also been influenced by artists and entrepreneurs with whom he has worked
throughout his career. One such person is Roy Halston Frowick, with whom
he formed a good friendship while working as an actor in Los Angeles. Bianca
Jagger is another of his great muses, who wore several of his famous
women's tuxedos and even named one of his mythical sunglasses after him.
The stylist
and former director of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, worked with Ford
for six years and in 2012 designed a bag in collaboration with the Parisian for
her fall/winter collection that year. Another of the designer's fetish faces is
Julianne Moore, who has been wearing Tom Ford designs on red carpets for
more than 15 years and was also the female lead in his first film (A Single
Man, 2009).
Tom Ford sunglasses. An
avant-garde brand in the fashion world
Since he
started at Gucci to end up launching his designs from his own firm Tom Ford has
made it clear that he feels fashion and has a very definite style. Tom Ford
has achieved a more than deserved recognition as a cutting-edge brand in
the fashion world.
In Vytria
Eyewear you will find an extensive catalog of Tom Ford sunglasses and also the
latest news and classics in frames for glasses. Some classic designs while
provocative and sensual and, of course, lots of color in both frames and
lenses, because their sunglasses with tinted lenses are already one of
the most iconic in recent years.
Some of his
most recognizable glasses are those made of acetate in black, with metal
frames, half browline frames or aviator style glasses. Although at first glance
they may seem very different models, they all have in common that provocative
touch that identifies Tom Ford.
One of the Top 3 most
successful eyewear lines in history
With little
that is known about Tom Ford's history, it seems that he was born to create
success. Starting at Gucci, through YSL to launching his own brand in 2006. He
started with his cosmetics line with Esteé Lauder and partnered with
Marcolin to distribute his glasses all over the world. Thanks to this last
union with Marcolin, Tom Ford became one of the Top 3 most successful eyewear
lines in history.
In 2023,
Tom Ford introduces Peter Hawkins as the brand's new creative director
after more than 25 years working with Ford himself and leading the Tom Ford
menswear line. “Peter has been key to the success of the brand. He is extremely
talented. His appointment gives me peace of mind and confidence,” said Ford
after the announcement.
Tom Ford Eyewear: Synergy
between fashion and cinema
Tom Ford
eyewear designs are linked to the world of fashion, cinema, art and collecting.
The Tom Ford universe cannot be understood without the synergy between
fashion and cinema.
An example
that this formula works perfectly is the appearance of Tom Ford clothing and
eyewear in numerous music videos, such as Suit & Tie, winner of a Grammy,
or successful films, such as Skyfall, one of the latest James Bond films
starring Daniel Craig in which the protagonist wears Tom Ford FT144 sunglasses.
Another
occasion where we can also see examples of the synergy between Tom Ford fashion
and cinema is on the red carpets, where numerous internationally successful
actors wear suits, dresses and, increasingly, sunglasses and spectacle frame
every year. At the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, for example, Ryan Reynolds
appeared on the red-carpet wearing Tom Ford FT5178 glasses in havana.
