Veneta: the history beyond this luxury brand
Bottega
Veneta was born in
1966 in Vicenza, in the Veneto region (the place that gives its name to the
brand and today still houses the workshop where Bottega Veneta eyewear is also
created); the result of the work of Michele Taddei, Renzo Zengiaro and Laura
Taddei (Michele's wife and the first creative director).
Bottega
Veneta's specialty is the manufacture of leather pieces in which they created
their now iconic intrecciato technique. At the end of the 70s the
founders left the maison and Laura Taddei took over the maison with her
new husband, Vittorio Moltedo. During the 70s and 80s, Bottega Veneta lives
its first golden age, focused on fashion and would have to wait until the

Its bankruptcy in the 90s
and subsequent boom
In the
1990s, Bottega Veneta decided to join the “logomania” and added its logo to its

its new creative director to bring back the minimalist and discreet

Bottega Veneta to finish its resurgence and return to success.
2000 decade and their expansion

In 2001,
the Gucci group, a subsidiary of the French luxury multinational PPR, buys
Bottega Veneta to save it completely from the crisis of the 90s. Tomas Meier
was chosen as the new creative director and in less than a year he
presented his first collection of sweaters and sports jackets and in 2003
launched the first collection of Bottega Veneta glasses, which would be a
resounding success and would mean the expansion of the Italian brand into the
Eyewear world.

Since
Meier's time at the helm of creative direction, Bottega Veneta's product
offerings have diversified enormously. In addition to the first Bottega
Veneta eyewear in 2003, jewelry, cosmetics, fragrances and home décor

New change and the purchase
of the firm by Gucci Group in 2001
During the
