history of ETRO began in 1968 when Gerolamo Etro (known by his nickname Gimmo) founded his textile
company in Milan and from the very first collections we can see how the founder
of the Italian firm embodies his passion for the exotic that he discovered in
all his travels to remote and faraway places.
The
hatching came in 1981, when Gimmo Etro introduced the now famous paisley
pattern, which over the years has varied in shapes and colors to become the
hallmark of the Milanese fashion house.
ETRO's second distinctive pattern is its logo, a proud Pegasus, a winged horse that we see on most of the glasses, on the temple, in gold.
Trips to the African continent and also to India are what have influenced Gimmo Etro and all his sons who have been in charge of different creative parts of the company. Something that today is still patent in the designs of their sunglasses, thinking more in the artistic and make a difference.
