The inimitable style of Gucci sunglasses

The latest of Gucci Eyewear

After the death of the founder of the maison Guccio Gucci, it was his sons who took the decision to internationalize the brand and Aldo Gucci made history by creating the iconic double G logo, representing his father's initials. Hollywood fell in love with this logo and turned it into a symbol of global luxury.

 

In the 80's serious family problems arise that end with the murder of Maurizio Gucci, the founder's grandson who had taken control of the firm to sell almost half of the shares to an Arab company. Gucci ceased to be a family business and the reputation crisis that was already dragging on due to a poorly controlled expansion worsened.

 

The resurrection with Tom Ford

The early 1990s saw the resurrection of Gucci. Maurizio Gucci had hired Dawn Mello who began to make important changes so that all collections, including Gucci eyewear, would focus on the union between luxury and exclusivity.

 

It was Mello who brought in a young and unknown Tom Ford and in 1994 he became the new creative director and with him came the second golden age of Gucci with its sensual and provocative approach to both collections and marketing campaigns.

Gucci Equilibrium is a platform that brings together people who defend the planet and the people who live on it. The Italian maison defends that big brands have the responsibility to be active members to motivate a real change.

 

This Gucci initiative encompasses different actions, since on the one hand the firm is using creativity and making different collaborations to reduce its environmental impact and protect the planet; and on the other hand, there are actions focused on people, promoting inclusion and respect so that we can all express ourselves freely in the #GucciCommunity.

 

Following this path on social responsibility and sustainability, Gucci launches in spring/summer 2024 its Gucci ReAce sunglasses made with 100% recycled acetate, made in Italy in a responsible and sustainable way. The Gucci ReAce frames are a limited edition of 1,000 numbered units and no two are alike.

 

Another initiative born within Gucci Equilibrium is Gucci Chime (or CHIME FOR CHANGE), a global campaign created by the Italian firm in 2013 focused on gathering and promoting those who raise their voice in favor of gender unity. This campaign has raised more than 19 million dollars for different feminist movements and organizations around the world.
