First, as it is the part of the glasses that gets the dirtiest, we must learn how to wash the lenses of sunglasses:
1. Make sure your hands are well cleaned.
2. Hold the sunglasses from the central part to avoid deformation or breakage.
3. Place the glasses under the flow of the faucet and with your fingers moisten every corner of the lenses, taking special care with the force you use (it is important to clean them, but also not to break them).
4. Take some neutral soap and with the help of two fingers apply it on the lenses using circular movements.
5. Rinse with plenty of cold or lukewarm water until all soap residue is completely removed. Avoid using hot water as it may damage the coating on the glass.
6. Finally, dry them using the cloth that came with your Vytria glasses, but you can also use a microfiber cloth or a soft cloth that is clean and dry.
Although it is the lenses that get dirty the most, it is also important to clean the frame of the sunglasses to keep them looking as good as the first day and to remove any bacteria that may accumulate.
1. Take the glasses carefully, in this case we will modify the grip as we clean them, but it is important to do it from the side to avoid bending them.
2. Use a microfiber cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth.
3. Wet the cloth with lukewarm water and apply a little hand soap or neutral soap and clean the frame taking care not to deform it.
4. Once cleaned, we dry them using another clean and dry cloth.
The answer to this question is "yes, but". Because it is true that dirt accumulates between the lenses and the frame of a pair of glasses and must be removed, but this must be done very carefully.
1. Hold the glasses by the central part.
2. Use a soft toothbrush, wet it with lukewarm water and add a drop of neutral liquid soap.
3. Clean those hidden areas, being careful not to let the cedars of the brush touch the lenses, and make emphasis on the hinges and pads, as these are places where dirt can be more persistent.
4. Dry thoroughly with a soft, clean, and dry cloth.
Basically, the best process for cleaning glasses is the simplest: soap and water. So, in addition to water, we recommend you use the following products suitable for cleaning sunglasses in order of priority or accessibility depending on where you are.
Indeed, water and neutral soap is the quickest and most economical solution when it comes to cleaning our sunglasses. If you perform daily maintenance, you may be able to get by with just water, but for a complete cleaning we recommend using a little soap.
Both the optical cleaner and the cleaning wipes are two exclusive products for the maintenance of the glasses and that are usually practical to always carry with us or travel and can save us from some trouble.
The cleaning wipes are impregnated with a specific product for lenses and are for single use only. It is the most practical format to carry in your bag or car away from direct sunlight.
The optical cleaner is the same liquid as the wipes and is available in a spray or sponge applicator for easy use.
Microfiber cloths are ideal for drying or cleaning the frame. But it is very important to make sure that they are clean and dry, otherwise we can aggravate the dirty state of our sunglasses and cause scratches on the lenses.
Although in several sites you can read that hand sanitizer is valid for cleaning glasses, from Vytria we do not recommend it, because most of them are alcohol-based and can damage the special treatments of polarized or photochromic lenses. Another reason is that, if not completely removed, the remains of the disinfectant could end up in our eyes causing a major problem. To avoid this: soap and water.
The most important thing to make sure that we avoid scratching the lenses of our sunglasses is to perform a correct and continuous cleaning of all the parts that compose them: lenses, frame, hinges, etc.
What we must not do is to clean the glasses dry, because many times we sin of pouring mist on the lenses and take a t-shirt and rub to remove the dirt and, instead of getting them clean, we will scratch them. This is when we will use the optical cleaner or wipes.
In addition, the National College of Opticians and Optometrists recommends not to leave the glasses resting on the lenses or near a heat source or inside the car as heat can dilate and deform the materials.
To make sure our glasses are perfect, and their lenses are not scratched, we have to pay special attention to how we wear them, how we store the glasses and, as we said, how we clean them.
Always, always handle your sunglasses with both hands. Avoid removing your glasses with only one hand, as this will cause the temples to become deformed.
When storing your glasses there are three things to keep in mind:
- Place them upside down with the bridge on the bottom and not on the lenses.
- Store them in the case we send you from Vytria.
- Avoid storing them near heat sources.
And finally, but just as important, is that you keep in mind that you have to clean your glasses regularly and using the right products so that their condition remains intact and they last a lifetime.
