To know what your sunglasses or optical frames size is, there are several measurements that you should know, beyond the caliber that surely sounds familiar to you (although you may not know exactly what it refers to).
The size of the glasses is popularly known as the caliber of the glasses. When we talk about caliber we refer to the width of the lens in millimeters, a measurement taken by measuring the glass horizontally from one end to the other and taken from the widest part. A standard caliber ranges from 40 to 62 mm.
The lens width measurement is important, but there are three other measurements to consider: lens height, stem length and bridge width. All these measurements you could see on the inside of the temple of the glasses.
The measurements you have in your sunglasses do not have to be the same in prescription glasses because you must consider that you will see much more of your eye.

Getting the size of your sunglasses right is essential for you to look good, but also to get the most out of them, to make sure they are comfortable and that the frame you have chosen does not interfere with your field of vision.
Once we know the different measures that have a pair of glasses (width and height of lens, bridge and rod) we must also know the measures of our face and compare them. If you buy your sunglasses online at Vytria these measures are indicated in the product sheet, and you can check them when you receive them on the rod of the glasses.
The size of your sunglasses is probably the size that will affect your style the most, as the size of the lens directly influences your face. Smaller faces are likely to be favored by smaller sizes and vice versa.
The point is that most people have a “medium sized” face and it will be other features and even personal style that will make them choose a small round Miu Miu Miu or an oversize aviator.
Remember that the caliber of a frame corresponds to the diameter of its lens measured between the widest ends.
And what are the rest of the measurements that will determine which glasses are best suited to your face? Read on!
The height of the lens, in effect, corresponds to the measurement of the height of the lens and, like the caliber, is also measured across the widest area, although in this case it is measured vertically. Normally the height of the lens ranges between 32 and 38 millimeters.
The height and width of the lens are those that vary according to trends and, although this is the most common measurement, each brand launches each year oversize glasses that exceed this standard measurement and vice versa as the Shade Saint Laurent.
The temple length is the measurement of the length of the “temple” measured from the hinge to the tip. Getting this measurement right is what will ensure that these sunglasses or optical frames are the most comfortable. Standard sizes are 135, 140 and 145 mm.
The last measure to take into account when buying glasses is the width of the bridge and it is very important, since it is the element that is right in the center of the face and if it does not fit properly to your nose will make you fall and you find it uncomfortable to wear them.
It is the measurement corresponding to the space between the two lenses and usually measures between 14 and 24 millimeters.

There are 3 steps that will help you know how to choose the right size of your favorite sunglasses model.
1 - Learn to read the measurements of the glasses
As we have seen there are 4 measures that we must consider when buying new glasses and three of them we will find inside a rod and in an online store will be indicated on each product. It will be something like this: 51 - 19 - 144. The first (51) will be the caliber, that is, the diameter of the lens; the second (19) is the width of the bridge; and the third (144) is the length of the rod.
2 - Check other glasses or frames you have at home.
The ideal is always to have a pair of glasses that you can trust as a reference when buying your next pair of glasses because, as we have just seen, you will only have to check the temple to know the measurements that best fit you.
3 - Measure your old glasses with a ruler or use the credit card trick.
It is possible that because of use or because they are too old you can't find the measurements on the temple of the glasses you have at home. That's okay! With a simple ruler or a meter, you can measure them considering the above-mentioned indications about the width of the lens or the bridge of the frame.
A trick that always works to get the right size of the glasses is to use any credit card and follow these instructions:
1. Take any credit card.
2. Place it on the bridge of your nose, just below your eyebrow.
3. Measure where the outer edge of the card reaches.
a. If the card goes beyond the edge of your eye, you should choose a small caliber, 50 or smaller.
b. If the card ends just at the outer edge of your eye, your size is medium (51 to 54 gauge).
c. If the card ends in the middle of the eye, you will need a gauge equal to or larger than 55 mm.
Do you want to get it 100% right when buying your new sunglasses online? Remember that glasses from the best sunglasses brands should have the measures indicated on the inside of the rod and if yours do not have them, surely a friend or relative can leave you theirs and, if they fit you well, take those measures and run to the Vytria website to choose your favorite model.
