Elevate your sporty personality with Oakley sunglasses
Oakley is one of the Eyewear brands with more identity thanks to its sporty character that makes them the favorite sunglasses for lovers of sport and sports aesthetics that have gained so much popularity in recent years.
Oakley sunglasses are increasingly gaining in size, looking more like a snow goggle with a wrap-around frame. Acetate and polarized lenses with vibrant colors always predominate, although you will also find more classic sunglasses in black or gray.
If you are a lover of this brand, you will surely be familiar with models such as Lateralis, Gascan, Holbrook or Sutro. All of them top sellers during the last months and we never tire of repeating them, both for those who practice sports and for those who opt for sports sunglasses for their everyday looks.
The beginning of Oakley and their evolution in sunglasses
The story of Oakley eyewear begins in a garage, like all good stories that end in success. Jim Jannard decided to leave his job to start his own brand, which he named after his little dog: Oakley.
The first success comes from his way of working and overcoming adversity. Already focused on sports accessories, Oakley's first invention was a grip for motorcyclists with which they improved their traction enormously. It wasn't until 1980 that Oakley made the leap into eyewear by launching an upgraded version of the then-existing snow goggle racing goggles.
The first Oakley sunglasses were the Eyeshade, launched in 1984. The brand's founder set out to adapt the sun protection features of his recent MX snow goggles into sunglasses that would enhance sports performance. Using Lexan snow lenses and some duct tape, he designed the first prototype.
One of the keys to the success of Oakley sunglasses is that they were made by athletes for athletes. That is, those who worked making the brand's sports accessories were the first to try them out during weekend competitions.
Oakley: from sport accessories to becoming a fashion icon
The American firm Oakley is currently dedicated to the design and manufacture of top-quality sports equipment, among which its sunglasses stand out. It should also be noted that Oakley holds more than 600 patents for eyewear and other sports accessories, which makes them pioneers and the best in the innovation of sports eyewear.
It was in 1975 when Jim Jannard bet on Oakley and began selling his Oakley grip by personally going to motocross events and captivating participants. This grip was made from a patented material he created himself: Unobtainium, and it is still used to make temple covers and nose bridges for goggles.
The Oakley cuff was followed by the first versions of sports eyewear: the O-Frame of 1983 designed especially for motorcycle riding and where we could already see the hallmark of the brand: the arched cylindrical lens, followed by the Eyeshades that revolutionized the world of sunglasses and only a year later Oakley would gain international recognition with the sponsorship of cyclist Greg LeMond (3 times winner of the Tour de France).
Oakley sunglasses
What characterizes Oakley sunglasses frames, as well as their lenses and each piece that forms them is the quality of the material used in their manufacture. This American brand was not satisfied with existing materials and to achieve maximum performance in their sunglasses manufactures its own materials such as HDO technologies (High-Definition Optics) with which the sharpest possible vision is achieved or Prizm lenses that enhance color and contrast.
